A distinguished psychologist, a devoted pastor, and an inspiring speaker. His leadership and service to our community are truly commendable.
Dr. G’s warm presence and profound wisdom shine through in every role he takes on. It's an honor to capture the essence of such an esteemed and passionate servant of God.
Thank you for being such a wonderful leader.
Grad 2024! Way to go!
The love and family bond is so evident here in all of the laughs and silliness this group displayed and it was the most heartwarming
to witness their genuine connections.
I think what makes a family session the smoothest with young children is the parent's willingness to relax and have fun with the kids. We focused more on interacting, playing, and exploring the scenery rather than being too strict on rules and forcing kids to sit in one place and smile.
Isn't that what you want to remember when you look back on this time in your life? Not that everyone was sitting perfectly but that there was connection and love and lots of laughs to go around.
Thank you so much "C' family for trusting me to document your special memories.
Session was done at 5 days old. To get those adorable curled up shots I’m known for, make sure to book your session before 10 days old.
There's something truly enchanting about the warm, golden hues of the setting sun that bring out the love and connection in every frame.
Spring florals and ethereal light play up this whimsical set.

I have been waiting for months for this baby's arrival and I'm just so excited to have photographed their first family portrait. This family is so special to me. I've known some of them for years and this sweet mom was my daughter's 3rd grade teacher. What a blessing!
There's just something about them that I can't put my finger on but I think it's love. Such a beautiful family. Aren't they just glowing?!
Those very first moments with a new baby are so important to capture. They stay tiny like this for such a short time
So excited to have been able to photograph the newest edition to the Shipley’s family. The best donut place ever! Thank you so much to my long time friend, Stacy for gifting this session. I will always have such wonderful high school memories with you and our many trips to pick up donuts whenever we wanted. This was the SWEETEST session and I am beyond thrilled to have been a part of it.
Can't wait to see this sweet boy in about 6-7 months when he's sitting up unsupported. That has to be my absolute favorite age to photograph. They smile at everyone and they aren't quite mobile yet. It's just the cutest time to document.

New life is just so incredible to document and these early moments are so fleeting. In just a few weeks her baby boy won’t fit so small in her arms like this.
They grow so fast in the first year!
Welcome to the world little one!
Sweet dreams little one!

I swear Krystal is a model in her spare time. Just so easy and natural in front of my camera. She made my job so easy. I truly enjoyed putting our heads together in creating this fun memory of one of the biggest birthday milestones there is in life. To many more birthdays!!! Hope you have a fabulous day!
Really loving the “Old Hollywood” vibes in this image.
Glamorous!
Happy 40th Birthday pretty lady!

This baby girl absolutely loved to have her arms out the swaddle. This was her most comfortable position. Just so sweet!
All the little baby bits!
A little splash of color!
What's your family story and how to you want to be remembered?
Brotherly love.

It was such a pleasure working with this sweet family! This little peanut is just so precious.
This snuggly curled up portrait of Miss E was taken at just 10 days old, the ideal time to document those first moments.
You will always remember that first time you held her in your arms when she was so tiny. She'll triple her size in the first few months but this moment captured together will last a lifetime.
Just love the secret garden vibes of this portrait session. I always seem to gravitate toward a feminine romantic feel. I love including florals and pastel muted tones. Anything whimsical and fairytale like make my heart sing.

This is my studio mascot.
The kids just loved her and wanted to take a portrait with her. Their little faces just lit up when the doggie joined in on the fun.
Those gummy smiles at this age are the best!
This guy is sooo sleek! Love his outfit!
At the end of our session, she said “mommy, this is the most fun shoot I’ve ever done.”
The confetti throwing was a blast!
How sweet is this doggie! Her human friend was having too much fun playing with her sister when she consequently "got a booboo," and she was right there to console her.
A few senior portraits for Mr. W.

For this child I have prayed. ~ 1 Samuel 1:27
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. ~Eleanor Roosevelt~
This young lady has huge dreams. Watching her is a such a motivation! I can't wait to see all that you do in your life. You were meant for greatness!
There is just something about this fine art portrait that draws me into her beautiful blue eyes. All I see is strength and confidence.
Wow! I was blown away when I walked into this young lady's room. What I found was beyond just a girls room. She had quotes all over her walls. "You are IMPORTANT", "You are LOVED", "You are KIND", "You are SMART."
Addison's mom shared with me, that since she was very young, she would have Addison sit in front of the mirror and speak positive affirmations while looking at herself. She expressed the power of loving and believing in yourself. To me this was incredible!
This image is a "behind the scenes" glimpse into the internal work she has done to be where she is today. I wanted to help Addison tell the story of her journey on how she came to this powerful mission.
At the young age of 13, Addison has BIG BIG BIG dreams! She is on a mission to replace fear with love, replace doubt with knowledge and replace segregation with inclusion. People are not their disabilities, they are people first.
CONGRATULATIONS Addison Bortnick on becoming your peer elected Vice President of Cathy Middle School of McAllen, Texas.

What a challenge that was and so much more complicated than physically being behind the camera. I’ll spare you the tech talk but just know it’s a P.I.A.
I’m super excited that I was able to get these! It’s such a special memory to have us together. I can’t wait to show y’all how I’ll make a wall display of a few of these mixed in with the individual portraits I took of the little in my previous beach post.
Oh how I love this little girl. She is such a blessing!
Thought I would share my most recent gallery wrap canvas order. Just so pretty in person! The camera just doesn't show all the detail unless you see it in person.

When mom called my to schedule her one year birthday session, I was beyond thrilled because I photographed her as a newborn baby and was so excited to see how much she had grown. Such a beautiful baby girl! It is such an honor to get to watch my clients grow up before the eyes of my camera.
Normally, I photograph babies this age in the studio during morning hours since the late afternoon/evening is what I call the "witching hour" for little ones. They just get tired and cranky at the end of the day. Though, Covid-19 has caused some constraints, we moved the session outdoors in a well ventilated area so that we could abide by safety regulations. Baby S did amazing but did tire out toward the end.
I'm so happy that we were able to find a workaround to having this special milestone photographed and that we weren't held back by limitations. This session was photographed during my absolute favorite time of day,....goldenhour!
The timing of this session couldn't have been more perfect as we scheduled a couple of days after Hurricane Hanna hit the McAllen area but right before the arrival of our Texas sized mosquitoes. Those things could carry off a small child. :)
Mom and dad were so helpful in getting her attention. They all sang her favorite nursery rhymes together.
What is even more special is that all of these crowns are hand made. Two of the crowns are made from their grandmother's shells that were collected at South Padre Island.
Sassy mermaids! This was an outtake of them just sitting around before I started posing them.
Kids just being kids,.....run, play, swim, get all sandy, run in the ocean,....REPEAT!
I just loved how shooting in this sunflower field made everyone feel......Just happiness and joy. The bright yellow and all the sunshine lent itself so well to a session full of smiles, laughter, and light-heartedness.
Driving out to this sunflower field was such a breath of fresh air after being stuck in quarantine for so long. The drive to our destination was relaxing and it felt so good to get away. Just being out in the sunflower field gave us such a feeling of joy. Being surrounded by bright yellow flowers brought such happiness. If you’re thinking of doing a sunflower session PM ASAP. I don’t know how much longer this field will be there.
That's why it is so dear to my heart to be able to document these moments for families. It is my hope that these portraits will remain heirlooms in their family that will be passed on to their children, passing the test of time, and remaining in their hearts forever.
Thank you so much for trusting me with your special memories!
Sister with her new baby brother. When I was photographing them together, I could just see her all her lit up with excitement and joy over her new sibling.
All nestled up. Too cute!
Mom's special request.....the American Flag.
Dad loves baseball and specifically the Yankees.
Skin to skin with baby is such a pure moment to capture.
Outtakes are the best aren’t they?! Oopsie, baby had an accident......straight down his pants. This Dad was a great sport for putting up with all of this. 😂

Goodnight, sleep tight.
So stinking cute when they smile while dreaming.
All the tiny details.

Three little ones under four was quite the challenge for any posed portraiture so lots of play was in order! We played tag and Simon Sez together and I got my workout in for the day. We looked for sand crabs and seashells and dunked our toes in the cool water.
Not only will this family have beautiful memories to look back on, but I will hold these memories in my heart as well. The joy and laughter and even a few tears from the little's after a long time playing. I am truly blessed to be able to experience this with them.
The sunset was so amazing on my drive home from SPI that I had to stop and take an image bay side.
And baby "I" is such a little doll. I just want to hug her and squeeze her. She is so so cute! I can't even with how adorable she is. The neatest thing was how she enjoyed listening to the sound of the flash from my studio lights. Every time I clicked the shutter she smiled right at me. Such a happy baby!
Oh the changes that motherhood brings and how you two will grow together through those changes over the years. I'm so excited for you to have this gallery wrap canvas to admire in your home each day as a reminder of where you have been, where you two are going, and the love you two have for each other.
What a sweet baby girl with such a spunky personality! Her session was too fun and I just love all of those cute expressions she gave me. Happy Birthday baby girl! I hope to see you back soon for many more sessions as you grow.

Did you know October is Down syndrome Awareness Month? I want you to meet Addison Bortnick, Easterseals Advocate Of The Year and ask you to take a moment to get to know this amazing young woman with Down Syndrome that is inspiring our community to be fully inclusive!
This passionate self advocate is on a mission to replace DOUBT with KNOWLEDGE, replace FEAR with LOVE, and to replace SEGREGATION with INCLUSION. Go check out this passionate self-advocate on her youtube channel. Please like and subscribe to show your support. CLICK HERE---> Love & Dream Without Limits | Powerful Message From Self Advocate Addison Bortnick
I am so inspired by the huge things that she has done in her community and it was such a pleasure to photograph her. She is doing huge things and I'm so excited to help her spread the word.
At the young age of 12 Addison is a passionate self advocate with a courageous heart full of God’s Love. She has BIG BIG BIG dreams of making the world fully inclusive. She is on a mission to replace doubt with knowledge, replace fear with love, and to replace segregation with acceptance. Her goal is to soften hearts and show the world that ALL people deserve the right to be accepted and included as they are, regardless of their diagnosis. There are no limits to anyone’s potential.
With LOVE anything is possible, because Love never fails- Corinthians 13:8
Before Addison could communicate with words, she was the cover girl for Children’s Ministry Magazine and was also chosen to be the cover girl for the book titled Special Needs Ministry for Children. Addison didn’t need words to share God’s love. Her contagious smile, trust in others, and beautiful heart was her way of letting her light shine reflecting God’s love. Addison continued to be in numerous magazines and newspapers in her younger years touching many lives.
Once Addison became a fulltime student she immediately began paving the way for district change and a movement toward full inclusion for herself as well as all others with disabilities.
Addison’s persistence and positive attitude, despite her many obstacles, allowed her many abilities to take flight. Addison took great pride in her many academic achievements as well as her extracurricular activities including cheerleading and dance achievements.
Addison became very engaged in spreading awareness, acceptance and love for Down syndrome within her community. She was on the news a few times and helped in many ways with her local Buddy Walk.
Addison’s inspiration to others continued as she inspired the City of Abilene’s Art Walk. The Mayor presented a Proclamation to Addison along with her peers in The Upside Down Club, Inc.
to Proclaim January 14th “Inside Out & Upside Down Day” in Abilene, TX.
At the age of ten, Addison had found her VOICE and was eager to be a voice for all individuals not being taught that their voices are valuable She was eager to share her message "Love & Dream Without Limits to the world." Addison was invited to be the guest speaker at The Upside Down Clubs Annual Buddy Walk. Shortly after she got to speak in conjunction with an Emmy Award Winner at The Rio Grande Valley Down Syndrome Association’s Step Up for Down Syndrome event.
Addison’s passion for being a Voice for all others with disabilities lead her to take a stand and advocate in many ways. Addison spoke at Legislative Listening sessions, School board meetings, Cathy Middle School and many more. Addison won first place in the Texas District 12 4-H public speaking competition and also got honored as the 2018 Easterseals Advocate of the year. Addison got honored with an official House Resolution at the Texas State Capital!
We know this is just the beginning to all the incredible ways God is using her to be his hands and feet, paving the way for Equality and making this world fully inclusive! For with God nothing shall be impossible Luke 1:37
You are just beautiful inside and out; and I cannot wait to meet your baby girl!
Newborn portraits coming soon!
Love the dresses that she brought. Classic and timeless.
We also did a few images on a white background. This is one of her favorite images from the session.
So Mrs. B called me one afternoon and said "Hey! I found a cotton field out here in North McAllen, lets do our Family portraits soon!" So we planned a date, went to the cotton field and it was gone. I was so sad as I knew that photographing a family portrait in a cotton field at sunset would be beautiful. Mrs. B is so amazing that she went out on the hunt for another field and found one in South McAllen. I said lets plan ASAP, like tomorrow before they harvest it.
Oh and what a perfect field it was. I just love when clients come to me with new locations or ideas. It makes it a team effort and everyone has fun.
Mrs. B is probably one of the sweetest ladies I know. She is so warm and welcoming and when she first greats you, she'll give you a big 'ol Texas hug. Just makes you feel warm and loved. She's actually a photographer herself and I would love to have her on board my team soon. So look out for this friendly face in some collaborative projects to come. Her daughter Miss A is also doing some great things in advocacy that I'll talk about in another post soon.
As always, if you're looking for a family photographer in the McAllen Texas area please contact Kim for scheduling and availability [email protected] 956.320.1105 or email for availability or go the the main page and tap the red tab at the bottom of the page to get on my schedule. HERE!
Isn't she just precious! Such a tiny little peanut weighing just 5 pounds and 10 ounces. Baby S was a dream to photograph at 10 days old. The perfect time for her newborn session. She was very sleepy and in that adorable curled up fetal position. We had all the right variables so lets make some art!
Don't you just love seeing your loved ones made into art to look at and appreciate daily. This little girl is so special and she is going to have an amazing heirloom of artwork to look back on one day.

This image will be printed as a 16x24 wall art piece and printed on a wood photo block. These photoblocks are handmade by a sweet family owned business in the Netherlands. Many of my newborn props have come from this company and their work is fabulous. So gorgeous in person! They have a hand painted acrylic finish where the brush strokes are visible on top of the printed artwork. This makes it have a painterly artistic quality! It is definitely unique and one-of-a-kind. Since it's handmade you won't find large companies doing reproductions like this and if you do they won't have the high quality artistic feel that this one has. Mom, you are getting a very special piece of artwork and I'm thrilled for you to have something so unique.
One of the cutest things is when they smile in their sleep. I always wonder what they're dreaming about.
This little is so loved by her parents. Baby's bring such joy!

This portrait will be made into a large gallery wrap canvas. I can't wait to see it on your walls Mrs. C! She's a doll!
This next series is so real because Ms. J made us work hard to get these portraits!.....And I mean WORK! She didn't want to leave mom's lap. However, you would never know by how cute these images turned out. I think it's probably a mom's biggest worry, to bring her child to a portrait session where you made an investment and them not be on their best game. Not to worry though because I have lots of patience and several tricks to get them to participate in some fun portrait taking.
Five Reasons Why you Shouldn't Wait till Baby is Older to do a Newborn Session
1) Weight and size increases and not able to fit into many props
2) Less flexible and not as easy to pose
3) Her own sleep/wake pattern causes her to be easily startled and fussy
4) Most babies at this age hate tummy time
5) Vision is still developing and baby may look cross-eyed
Only the images where baby looks her best are included in the final gallery.

"Like Star dust glistening on fairies wings, little girls dreams are of magical things."
When they smile in their sleep, I always wonder what they're dreaming about. Cuteness overload!
Oh the faces they make. Too cute not to include.
Her daddy has just the right way to make her smile.
Can't wait to meet your baby boy!
Just love this classy timeless look. So fabulous!
Goddess!
Just about every image look just as beautiful in black and white.
Heres a cute outtake of my helpers:
If you hang around me and don't look busy I WILL put you to work. Haha! Couldn't have gotten this shot without a team of assistants to help me. Thanks so much!
Here is a behind the scenes image. When my little is away so I Play. Selfie time! 😂This is what I do when I’m bored. See the iPad on the stool, it’s tethered to the camera and I can control the settings and have instant feedback on the images so I can make real time adjustments.
I’m in love with having my studio back in my home. Everything I need is at my fingertips and I can shoot whenever I have a wild creative itch.
Every session is unique to the family and is custom designed. So when we met to discuss color and styling, Mom wanted to use non-traditionalcolors for her baby girl, blues, mustard, mauve, sage and of course my fav, cream! I just love how outside the box the color scheme was for this session. So refreshing!
Just love this baby blue for a girl.
Baby as art! This one would look so artsy printed and displayed as a large gallery wrap canvas.
This image with the pink wreath was made for the baby shower by her mother-in-law.
Pets are family too!
Mom was really not feeling up for taking portraits but I was very persuasive. This moment is so fleeting, I wouldn't want for her to miss the opportunity to remember how tiny her baby was in her arms. In just one month, they will look so different.
Tiny baby bits.

The night before,...packing and getting ready. Kelly is 38 weeks and ready to deliver via c-section.
The family is waiting to be let in to see Kelly and the new baby.
I just love this moment between the two grandmas. This is Zulema Cepedafirst grand-baby. So much excitement!!! Poor Kelly was just 10 minutes out of recovery before we all bombarded her with love and joy over baby Chloe.
She is here!
Their first family image.
So much joy that a new baby brings!
I'm an aunt! That's me, your photographer, always behind the camera unless I pass the camera to someone willing to capture that I was there too. LOL!

Even though Kelly wasn't thrilled about doing maternity portraits, I forced her. I wouldn't want her to regret not documenting this time her life. It's so fleeting! I'm so happy that I was able to give her these memories that she can pass down her baby girl one day. These are just a few of the highlights. The whole edit is beautiful and will make a gorgeous heirloom album for their little family to look through together. Can't wait to see these in PRINT!

Before I do any session I always spend a good amount of time talking to the mom about styling for the session. One of the biggest questions I always ask is how do you want to remember this moment in time? When you look back on this time in your life in 10-20 years from now how do you want to see your images displayed? Sooo......Mom decided that having a wall art portrait in her home that she can look at everyday showing the love that they have for each other would be a special way to capture their family.
Every part of the session was planned ahead of time from the clothing I helped her pick and the color tones that coordinate, down to how this session would be edited in post production. While many of my beach session edits are very pastel with dreamy skies, this one we decided to go with an earthy organic feel, classic and timeless; and getting to know mom, the styling is very unique and reflective of her family. I just love the way this edit turned out and I am so thrilled that I got to create something unique to their style.
Such a cute little man!
Such a spunky little girl!
Sibling love.
Silly kids!
This was the last shot of the evening during blue hour. It was such a serene moment when the crowds have left the beach and all of the beach umbrellas have been taken up. Such a sweet moment where they were able to take a minute alone together and enjoy the sound of the ocean.

Such a sweet girl this one is!

This bulldog comes from the finest bulldog breeder out of Dallas Texas. DSK Bulldogs. Mike Tucker (owner) raises beautiful healthy family pets and has the highest standards for his dogs. He's a wonderful person and takes such pride in producing healthy dogs. He's an upstanding guy who truly cares for his dogs and for the new owners. Ok, so I really wanted to showcase a milestone in my daughters life while she was at this age of loving princesses and having long hair down to her waist. I had imagined Rapunzel sitting on the ledge of her castle window with her pet chameleon. I didn't have a castle to photograph her on, especially here in McAllen or really the entire scene. The whole thing needed to be created from scratch. So I went into my backyard and saw the tree house part of her swing set. Light bulb!! All these ideas flowed into my mind of how to create this scene. I went into my prop stash and picked out florals and greenery. Next, I braided her hair with ribbon and flowers. The problem was that her hair wasn't long enough, I didn't have a chameleon, or a castle. This is where I new I would have to composite some images in during post production. Oh photoshop!....the relationship we have,... is love-hate! That's another story.
Anyway, I researched some stock images online that I could use and studied how the light fell on the them. That way they would fit into my scene with the correct lighting. I also photographed her hair in several different ways so that I could composite several pieces to add length at the end.
Overall an image like this takes methodical planning and hours and hours of post production time on the computer. It's not just a photograph, it's a piece of art. The final product will be printed on fine art giclee paper, with hand torn and painted edges and framed.
Here are some of mom's favorite highlights from our session.
It' so neat to capture a child's imagination.
Oh how she loved that birdcage!
That look! Stoic, innocent, mysterious,....I always wonder what's going through their little minds.
One thing I'll never regret is the mountains of photos I've taken to reflect on. What I do regret is not documenting some of the early milestones in my little one's life because I was too busy surviving as a new mom.
Document your memories, you won't regret it!
Sitter sessions are just the best stage to document. They are all smiles and aren't mobile enough yet to crawl away in the middle of a shot. Oh how I love this stage!

I had the most amazing dream last night.
I dreamt that I was in a college classroom. For some reason I had to take a very advanced chemistry class. I had already taken Chem1 and Chem 2 for my degree. I had graduated so I didn't understand why I was there and why I had to take this class. So I sit down in this auditorium. The professor is a Native American looking man (he has an uncanny resemblance to Graham Green, most known in the 90's movie Maverick) and as he starts to speak the lights go down and halogen stage lights are present over where he speaks. I look up and I see the night sky with hazy white striations resembling clouds. He explains where they come from. Then I look ahead and see a very small very vibrant deep royal blue light. (Kind of like the deepest blue that you would see from a welding arc). It begins as a small ball of light and then morphs to a cylindrical flattened out shape. He explains that this is before the world or creation. He said don't worry about this, this is before all creatures, aliens and other species (aliens,..mmm...oh really?), . Then in front of me I see a few clouds and another royal blue light but it's a little lighter. This was creation. This was the beginning, he said. There were more colors from the entire spectrum of the rainbow. I saw orange and yellow and some warm vibrant colors under the Blue. He said this is where God is, in the blue. The warm colors were a representation of God's love.
Then he starts to speak in a chant. It was a beautiful poem, where the ending of each line had a rhythm and rhyme. He had a Native American Indian appearance and this chant was so beautiful that it gave me chills. As he started to recite it, there was another class room auditorium behind him and they could here his voice and started to recite this chant with him (as if it was on the other side of the wall). The classroom I was in had never heard it before so we were all listening intently. As he was speaking he looked so poised and confidant. His chin held high as he peered out of the corner of his eye to see our reactions. He had a sense of pride in what he was saying. This is what I gathered from his body language.
So he begins reciting this beautiful chant that gave me chills. I can't remember any of what was said until the very end of the chant or poem which said "God with us." Maybe I couldn't understand the language or I couldn't remember what was said, either way, I awoke abruptly after the last line "God with us".
Then I woke up.....
I immediately thought in my mind, as I went from subconscious to conscious alertness. I said to myself "God is with us" means Immanuel. Wow! Ok, so what does this Blue light and God is with us really mean. I saw this spectrum of colors but blue was the most important.
So I get on google and look it up. It says Blue light is the light of God. Blue light is Christ consciousness. In this dream I didn't see Jesus or feel an angel. There was no human physical anchor to relate this too. No personification of God. God was the blue light as well as the spectrum of light and color I saw below the blue. This light was God in my dream. It was God's colors. It was a glimpse of the beginning and maybe the color spectrum was a representation of heaven but in my dream it was more primitive than that.
Dark blue (the light I saw which wasn't as important) means revelation, authority, kingship, priesthood, faithfulness.
The Blue light that was most important and representative means heaven, Holy Spirit, divinity, serenity, revelation.
Originally I thought that all I saw in my dream was God and his light. No personification of Jesus or angels etc. What I saw was the beginning, the root, the core of God. It was the beginning. But after looking up Immanuel (God with us) in the Bible. This is what I discovered.
““The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).”
Matthew 1:23 NIV
"God with us" IS Jesus. Jesus was actually part of my dream because that was the very last line of the poem/chant. Jesus is the physical manifestation of God, the flesh, and someone tangible that our human side can relate to.
The Holy Spirit in my dream was the dream itself, the messenger.
I experienced the trinity.
My interpretation is that God is not some old white man with a beard sitting on a throne in heaven but just pure light, energy and love.
Anyway, this is just my interpretation of what I saw. I don't have all the answers so please be gentle with me if I missed the mark.
Addendum: When I was thinking that God was pure light,..... maybe that is just the way that God was able to relate to my human mind. Maybe He would represent himself to others in another way, maybe through thunder and lighting for example or however else. What if He spoke to me in a way that I would understand and to someone else, the message could be delivered differently. Who am I to say who God is.
Look up on Google Blue light, God with us. It explains a lot of more of the meanings of the colors of light.
The end.
This is such a rudimentary illustration of what I saw in my dream but I just can't seem to recreate all of the colors that I saw.

It was such a lovely experience to go out on an "adventure" with the kids. We pretended to look for magical creatures in the field,...big dinosaurs for little "P" while little Miss "L" chased butterflies.
Editing these portraits "behind the scenes" was so fun for me. I had a huge smile on my face looking at the sweet innocent faces of those littles. I hope it was just as memorable of an experience for them as it was for me.
What wonderful parents you two are! Lots of fun was had.
I just love photographing this family and have had the pleasure of doing so over the last few years. It's so special to watch them grow.
I'm so happy that this beautiful mama allowed me to photograph her.
One day the kids will want to remember what you looked like when they were little.
This is such a great way to preserve their family legacy and I'm so happy that they did. They'll be able to pass down their heirloom artwork that I created for them, to their grandkids. (at the end I'll post a preview image of a wall art piece that they went home with.) So cool that they'll get to look at it everyday in their home. How will you remember your family legacy?!
To schedule your portrait session email [email protected]
It is so neat to have reconnected with an old elementary school friend I hadn't seen in many many years. It was an honor and a privilege to document this step in your lives.
Bless her heart! This sweet little girl had to be carried by her daddy the entire session because she didn't want sand on her feet. So a sibling shot was just not going to fly with her. Oh 2 year olds!
Did you know that I offer custom heirloom artwork for your home?
You know, it's one thing to have professional portraits taken, and another to actually do something with them. So often, I see people investing in digital files for them to simply sit on a hard drive and never to be seen again. Print it, it's worth it! You'll get so much more value out of your investment in a piece of artwork that you get to admire everyday hanging on your walls. What a remembrance of family love!
All wall portraits, prints, and albums have a 75-100 year archival rating which means they will last a lifetime if you take care of them properly. Digital files on the other hand will only last as long as the technology that they are on is functioning. Ever had cd/dvd not play because it was scratched or had a corrupted file. Remember the floppy disk? It's obsolete! Once a digital file is corrupted, it's lost into the digital abyss. What would happen if your computer gets a virus or the power goes out. You can't view them!
That being said, I believe both print and digital files are important. One is a back-up to the other. That's why we are a hybrid studio and offer both print and digital files. Now all your bases are covered!
To schedule a portrait session email [email protected]
So fun! I think all kids love to swing like this!
While editing, I found this gem below. I love it as it's so real. It takes on a documentary lifestyle appeal. To me it is just too funny!
What great parents they are!
These two always make me laugh when I photograph them. They are too much fun together!
Miss "L" below is one of my favorite models to photograph. She is great in front of the camera.
Miss "L" and her sweet girlfriends. While getting to know them, and a little insight into their lives, I found out that they are all just as beautiful on the inside.

Mermaid! We hand made this crown together. She helped pick out the shells a few of which we found at the beach. Fun summer project.
The bohemian trend going on right now really inspired me on this shoot. Loving the lace/crochet dress. Swoon!
I have to reshoot this at the beach!
Look at that mermaid makeup! Freaks me out how grown-up she looks. All in good fun though!

While we were already in studio, I decided to do a few more setups. I love this one because it looks like a painting. This is how I remember his face.
Happy Dog! You can't really tell he is sick here and that's how I want to remember him. Happy, playful, full of love. I'll always remember his strength and toughness when darting across the yard to jump to the top of a 6 foot fence in an attempt to catch a possum. (If you don't follow me on Facebook, you wouldn't know that he's been diagnosed with bone cancer. Since he doesn't have much time left, I wanted to do this shoot so that I'll never forget about the best dog I ever had.)
Just him and I.
Puppy love and kisses!
Photography has been such a blessing in my life and it's a tool I use in coping with the joys of life and it's heartbreak. I'm so thankful I'm able to capture these special memories. In the blink of an eye, it will all be over.
My magic power is a time machine, what's yours?!
What a fun time we had listening to music and dancing. Portrait sessions like this take you away to another place,...just for a short while; to pretend, to play, to escape the everyday and sing, act, dance and really get into a character.
Never lose that spirit sweet girl and keep on dancing! Such pure joy!
For the record, mom was hesitant about getting in any shots during the session but I MADE her. These are just outtakes but one day little "I" will cherish such a simple moment with her mother. She doesn't care if her mom was made up for the camera but she will forever hold in her heart the memory of her mother and who she was on that day.
Many blessings to your family! It was a pleasure to have been included in this moment in your lives!

Baby Z's mama was so creative, and a creative photographer, and creative Mama make a great team! Mom baked the cake from scratch! Impressive right?! She's also a designer and made the framed art with her one year stats. What a lovely design she made for her baby's first birthday portrait session.

The color of light changed throughout our shoot from bright and airy, to cool blue, and finally some soft pastels. The golden sunlight beaming off of the sand made this incredible pink color. What a perfect combination for a photographer,...a beautiful model, AND amazing light. Heavenly!
(Children's Pictures at the park in McAllen Texas)
Here's a quick highlight from the sessions.
The R Family
These lovely little girls really enjoyed milk and cookies in the studio. All smiles here and so so happy. What beauties!
The D Family
I've been photographing this little sweetie since she was in her mommy's tummy. What a miracle that is too watch and get to document. I feel honored! She's a doll and I can't wait to watch her grow throughout her first year.
The A Family
I've watched these little one's grow over the years and it has been a pleasure! They are a blast to play with. Potty humor always gets a smile out these guys. Oh and feeding them sugar makes them happy too. Sorry mom. :/
The V Family
One of the sweetest families. They are so kind hearted and easy going. Their little girl was a dream to photograph. Big blue sparkly eyes! This has to be my favorite stage to photograph: 6-9 months. They can sit up unsupported, love to smile at me, and can't crawl away and go exploring. The best!
The C Family
This was too much fun and a little crazy! Getting 3 dogs to cooperate and look at the camera at the same time was challenging. Words like cookie and outside worked to get their attention but the best attention getter of all time was meowing like a cat. Totally worked even though I looked like a complete weirdo while doing that. Haha!

Newborns are best photographed between 5-15 days old. After, this time frame they tend to uncurl out of the fetal position which makes it more difficult to get tthose cute curled-up shots.

What a beautiful moment between a new mother and her baby boy. In just a few short weeks he will double in size and will no longer fit so tiny in her arms. Enjoy the moment, it's fleeting.
This next shot is one of the parent's favorite portraits. I agree, he looks so cute and cozy curled up.
This little guy is going to grow to be tall. He's so long!
This image is really neat because it shows just how real the early days of motherhood are; shushing and soothing her new baby boy.
]]>What a lovely time to capture a little girl's imaginary play with her "friends."
Miss E also enjoys play time with her bulldog. If you look closely, there's a princess crown on his head. Since the two them have shared many cute moments together, it has inspired me to start a portrait series highlighting their adventures together. So, look out for those ahead.

Approaching fine art photography is so much more like painting and takes so much more forethought, time in post production, and knowledge in lighting.
I really wanted to have a painterly feel for this piece and sense of eeriness. I have much to learn and this is just the beginning. Enjoy!
]]>]]>
This portrait of us together, to me, is priceless. It's something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I really wanted something clean, simple and natural. An image that focuses on just the essence of our relationship. Ultimately, I was looking for a pensive emotion. Why? Maybe it's just a reflection of my personal style or my personality. As a creative, I tend to go through different moods and styles. Sometimes I like props to help tell a story or add a little whimsy. Other times I'm looking to create something that focuses on the parent-child relationship without any distracting elements. In this series of images, you'll get just a little insight into the planning and effort a portrait session takes. FYI, I had a specific pose I wanted which is reflected in the first image. All of the silliness, was what helped to get my daughter to relax into a state of calm for this image.
I am so grateful for my mom who helped me get this shot. (i.e. Camera was on a tripod). Looks like she's going to learn photography whether she wants to or not. Haha! She was so patient with all of my "little's" shenanigans."
Scroll down to see all of the silly antics.
I'm thinking that the above image will be printed as a large canvas for my house. I'll get to look at everyday and remember her "smallness." I think it's important for children to have a tactile testament of their parents love displayed where they live. It may even give them some small sense of self-esteem in their hearts. Here's a study to that references this claim. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1994-06-19/features/1994170178_1_family-photo-gallery-child-images Oh, her and daddy will have their portrait made soon as well.
Yup! She thinks it so funny to lick me. Eww Gross!
The only way I was going to get the expression I wanted out of her was to play and be silly. So why not just get the wide grins and bursts of energy out in the beginning.
This is one of my favorite outtakes. This big grin is one she always does lately. She dances around me while I sit and wait patiently for her to come back to me.
It looks like I'm posing for myself but I'm really just waiting for her to come around to the other side to get in place.
When I asked her which one of the portraits she liked the most.......she chose this one of course! What kid doesn't like to be held upside down from their ankles. I love how it shows the true nature of childhood.
A little sass in her step.
This one speaks for itself. Feet in the air and kid rolling around on the floor.
Here we are winding down a little bit and playing with toys.
This next shot evoked the pensive look I was wanting but just didn't quite tell the story. Plus, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hate the way my neck looks. (Ugh! feeling a little vulnerable writing that.)
Finally, the shoot is over and I'm breaking down the set and lights. Just a quick outtake of her relaxing and enjoying her play time.
What a beautiful mama and baby.
I love it when they smile in their sleep. I always wonder what they're dreaming about.
Everything tiny......
Usually my work is light and ethereal but I decided to do something more moody. It was fun exploring a different lighting style.

This is my favorite series from the session. Giving her baby doll some love. Isn't this the cutest thing you've ever seen. I couldn't stop smiling while editing these portraits. Melts my heart.
Even when they cry, as all babies do, I still take the shot. It's still a special memory of this time in their life.

I love that I'm able to make something special and unique for my little girl's Valentine's cards. I had a lot of fun prop shopping and styling this shoot. I've had a fixation with flowers lately. I'm not sure why other than they're just pretty and feminine. Happy Valentine's Day sweet girl!

Her dress is adorable too! I love the vintage feel it as and it's really not a dress, more of a romper. Darling!
]]>I'm so grateful that I have a sister-in-law that is also talented in photography. I set up my lights and backdrops and let her shoot away. It was so nice to have her help me out. It made our family portrait so much easier. No running into the photo while the camera rests on a tripod only to click a ton of shots where everyone is looking somewhere besides the camera. A group shot of us all together or even myself in a photo is a rarity. So that's definitely on my resolution list for 2014. More family photos and more photos with me in them. I never want to forget this moment. The way we looked, Emery's sweet smile and the chocolate stains I had to wipe away from her mouth before this shot. It's also a bonus that our loyal dog was such a lovely participant. He joined right in when he saw us sitting on the floor together.
This is us,...the Boggus Family, and we wish your family a very happy New Year!

]]>So once outside, I decided to follow the kids around with the camera and capture what they were doing. I love childhood and how small things interest kids. I kinda of get to experience their world through my lens.
The girls were great in front of the camera and they seemed very interested in what I was doing.
OH that curly hair and big blue eyes! So cute!
This guy was sneaky. He hid from me for awhile but I finally caught him. Haha!
Kids love climbing trees and it makes for a great "photo op."

Amelia was so cute when we set her on this furry rug. She would smile and then lean over to smell and touch the soft fur with her face.
Our little wasn't to excited to take pictures. She was too eager to play in the leaves with the other kids.
I'm so happy for these two. They will be getting married soon!
This is one of my favorite shots from our trip. I'm not even sure what they were talking about but it happened so quick that I was lucky to get this shot. I guess I will always wonder what an almost 3 year old (and 4yr old boy) could be talking about. Too cute!
I love her eyes! She's gorgeous!
Those blue eyes and long eyelashes! This handsome little boy has a twin brother that I never seemed to catch on camera.

This little boy had a SMASHING good time!

Babies, pearls and tutu's=Adorable!
Margo's first taste of cake.
I love watching little one's explore new things for the very first time. I wonder what she's thinking.
Poor baby! So many emotions about the big day. Don't worry, she only cried for a second before mom scooped her up for a cuddle.
Mommy did such a wonderful job making all of the decorations. The cake was delicious too!
]]>This shot was taken in very low light, about 2:00 a.m. He was just fiddling around on the guitar and reading tabs on his iPhone completely immersed in what he was doing. I liked the way the lamp and the bluish tones from the TV were hitting his face so I grabbed my camera, asked for a "hey, look at me real quick," and that was that. There's lots of noise but I'm loving the grainy look in this image.

Here she is reading Pinocchio and Geppetto, a book from my childhood.
That sweet smile melts my heart!
This next shot is awkward yet cute to me. She wants to show me her doll but is skeptical that I might take it away. I told her to be very careful with it since it's a fragile Madame Alexander doll. Oh, 2 year olds! Everything is "MINE" right now.
I love all of the little faces she makes and her idiosyncrasies. I'm one proud mommy!

I love the this classic look. It's simple and showcases her adorable little belly.
This next look I wanted something very feminine and romantic with a touch of vintage flare. I'm really adoring the lace wrap.
For this look, I was wanting a bit of a bohemian style with some bright pops of color.
I love the nostalgia of vintage photographs so I decided to play around with this shot. A little different editing style here. Thanks mom for taking this for me! — with Regina Bell.

I absolutely love itty bitty baby bits, especially tiny toes. They grow so fast! In just 2-3 weeks newborns will look so different, so it's important to get all of those tiny features captured.
This next series of photos is so sweet. Harper had fallen asleep so we posed her on the crate. She woke up for a few minutes, so still, just staring right at me. No fussing or moving. She was really working the camera and giving me some great stuff. Haha! Too cute!
I love the expression on her face in this next shot. Silly girl!
Here's Amelia in her baptism dress.

Look at those beautiful blue eyes.
This is Paige's friend Kate! Isn't she a doll.

Isn't this the sweetest dress. Lace is so pretty!
This is Kate's friend Paige playing together will some flowers they found nearby.
All of the sweet baby details...tiny fingers, eyelashes and my favorite,...baby toes!
This next photo was a special request from Mom. A very special relative of Maggie's has given her and her siblings at their birth a toy inspired by some of the unique pet names Maggie's mom and dad would call her while she was still in her mommies tummy. What a sweet story!
She loves to pick flowers.
(Below) Here you go bunny, would you like to eat the flower or just smell it?
The Easter Bunny!
This our family dog Fabio. He's such a sweet and gentle beast. I say beast because he doesn't know his own strength sometimes. He's a tough bulldog but is so great with Emery and other animals. I was skeptical at first of their introduction and thought he might try to "hunt" the rabbit like he would a possum but they have turned out to be friends. Wheew! Here they are taking a nap in the backyard.
Book now, limited space available!

Hey Everyone!
I just wanted to wish you a very Happy Valentine's Day! One of the things I love most about my job is working with your children. It warms my heart to watch your little ones grow throughout the year and I'd like to thank you for giving me the pleasure.
I had such a great time with Valentine mini sessions this year that I thought you might like to see some of the highlights. So here they are.....

Here's a little behind the scenes shot. It can incredibly difficult to get a two-year old to sit still for even a few seconds so I pulled out a few tricks, candy and an iPad. If you're wondering what the other stuff is in the shot, it's my Christmas tree and dining room table behind the backdrop. I rearranged some furniture to get the shot.

I couldn't decide which edit I preferred best so why not just include all three. (Below)

Here is an out-take from our shoot; a sneak peak behind the scenes.

It's the little things, the details, that are so important to her.
Smelling flowers!

Notice the first image, if you print in any of those sizes you'll keep your composition intact but if you print an 8x10, 4x5 etc., two inches is cut off. Also, the 5x5, 20x20 is a square crop and completely distorts the composition and actually ruins the story behind this picture.
Here's another example,
In this instance, the 8x10 and 20x24 creates a tangent (line of intersection) on the left side of the baby's hat. This is not flattering! Do I even need to mention what's wrong with the 5x5, 20x20?
One more example...
I hope this guide will help you improve your precious memories! Feel free to contact me with any questions.

The adorable knit hat that Levi is wearing was hand-made by a sweet friend. Thank you Elisabeth! Here's a link to her Facebook page if you would like one of your own https://www.facebook.com/elisabeth.smithhartley
I thought I would show a little behind the scenes of what it took to get this shot. Since it's not safe to position a newborn baby like this alone, I took two pictures and made a composite. I had an assistant behind the backdrop sitting on a bean-bag propping baby up from underneath and Mom positioning his head and hands. Let me just say that this was incredibly difficult as I had to have everything set just right to capture it. I hardly took a breath until the 2 shots were over and I could breathe a sigh of relief. It's super important that you know what you're doing in attempting a shot like this because you never want to jeapordize a baby's safety. It just isn't worth it! So, here is the before and the after (plenty of time was taken retouching).

]]>First of all, find a location that's interesting so the kids don't get bored. For this session, we went to a state park in the Rio Grande valley. There was a lot of wildlife, a lake, some nice trees and some very interesting stuff to look at. (I promised a friend I wouldn't disclose this secret location but if you want to do a portrait session with me, I might let you in on the secret.) To beat the South Texas Heat, we made sure to have cool, comfortable clothing and an ice chest full of water. And, don't forget the bug spray either!
1) Find a great location.
2) Plan ahead; clothing/attire, bug spray, water, etc....
3) Pick the best time of day- Early morning or late afternoon when the light is nice. Make sure to be on time.
4) Be yourself- feel free to jump around, act silly, let loose. Let's have fun!
5) Sit back, enjoy yourself, and let me do the rest of the work.
Here are a few pictures from my latest family session. Enjoy!

This was the end of the shoot when Kelly started to goof around and throw glitter everywhere. It was an unexpected shot I happened to capture.
